This work begins within the city of Melbourne, its streets, its strangers, its fleeting moments captured on film.

These photographs form a living archive, candid glimpses of life that might otherwise dissolve into memory.

In collaboration with Chico, whose collage work breathes new meaning into images, these fragments are reimagined. Layered and transformed, they become a new story not just mine, but ours, of a city we both love and call home.

Aluminium, resin, cement sheet, the bones and weight of the built world encase the work, serving not only as its frame but as part of the piece itself. In this way, the work becomes sculptural. These are the textures of construction, the materials I work with daily, shaping with my hands. By merging them with the visual language of photography, I create a bridge between the two lives I inhabit: builder and artist.

The process itself is as much a part of the concept as the finished work. From the slow unfolding of film photography, processing and printing, to the handmade fabrication of aluminium frames, the cement backing, and the careful casting of resin, each stage demands time, patience, and precision.

Moving away from my earlier print work, I am now exploring pieces that are meticulous and strong, works that take time to construct and stand as enduring objects. The sculptural frame, built from aluminium, resin, and cement sheet, reflects the very materials I use in my work as a commercial carpenter.

The photographs within, by contrast, represent my curiosity for life, my will to explore beyond construction, and the part of me that is forever observing, reflecting, expressing, and creating. This piece marks the beginning of my first series of artworks, a concept grown through lived experience and my continued devotion to weave art into the fabric of my life.
